WHISPERING STONES - A Cantata for voices & instruments (Duration 35 minutes)

 

This cantata was written for the 900 th anniversary of Durham Cathedral and was first performed in the cathedral by the Durham Singers in 1994.  The text is an exploration of the feelings evoked by venerable buildings and it is set using a beautiful Northumbrian folksong “Bonny at Morn” and the overtones produced by a church bell.

Choir (SATB), soloists (SAT), narrator, string quartet and percussion.

E - Easy: Can be sung by almost anyone and learnt aurally.

I - Intermediate: Still easy, but with a few tricky bits. Some score reading ability would help.

A - Advanced: Challenging. Reading skills required.
