Flat Earth

Andy Jackson

My son Louis must have been around 10 when he came out with the following thought.

“You know that people used to think that the world was flat. Well, that’s because it really did used to be flat.”

Is reality what we perceive, or what other people, (call them experts), tell us it must be? Anyway, it sparked a lively debate, which resulted in the following lyrics.

Galileo, apparently, found, that the Earth was round

and convinced all the rest to attest that that was that.

But this new-fangled theory was deeply flawed really

because, before it grew fat, the Earth used to be flat.

This three part unaccompanied setting is a bit like a psalm, giving it a sense of gravitas, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity for a musical pun on the final Bb.
