Theatrical overture by ANDY JACKSON

 

Written for a dramatised reading of Michael Morpurgo's book about the early 20th century transition of agriculture from horse power to tractor power, this piece features the cor anglais in an evocation of peaceful rural England with feint references to approaching mechanisation and the First World War.

Instrumentation: 3 Flutes (3rd optional), Piccolo (optional), 2 Oboes, Cor Anglais, 2 Bb Clarinets, Bass Clarinet (optional), Bassoon, Horn in F, Trumpet in Bb, Trombone, Timpani, Bass drum, Strings.
