BOTTOMS UP

Andy JACKSON

A quintet of bass instruments start trying to play a version of Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, but cannot resist inserting famous solos appropriate to their own section. The cello starts with "The Swan" from Saint-Saens's "Carnival of the Animals", then there is Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (bass clarinet) and Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain Kings" (bassoon). "Seventy Six Trombones" and "Nellie the Elephant" are introduced by the obvious candidates before they all settle on a few bars of "The Teddy Bears' Picnic" to finish.

Instrumentation: Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Trombone, Cello, Bass
